My name is Karen León and I am a native of Manhattan, New York. I graduated from Fordham University where I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Media Studies. I earned my Master of Arts degree in Education: Curriculum Development and Technology Integration from The University of Phoenix. My strong faith led me to pursue an Advanced Degree in Theology from Life Christian University. I completed my second Master’s degree in New Media Journalism from Full Sail University and graduated Valedictorian of the graduating class. This in itself was a humbling yet rewarding experience for me. Gaining the necessary education and skillset is an experience that I personally feel is imperative to achieving one’s lifelong goals. I am the first person in my family to earn multiple college degrees.
I began my professional career in the private sector but due to the personal tragedy of 9/11 my career took a different path. I am currently in my 16th year of teaching. Due to my passion for multimedia journalism, I had the opportunity to create a New Media Journalism Academy at the high school level. I am fluent in English and Spanish (bilingual), which will afford me the opportunity to communicate with a diverse population. Through this learning experience, I am hopeful that it will increase my exposure for future career advancement.
Family is an important part of my life. I live with my husband and daughter in Florida and enjoy spending quality time with my family. I am in the process of expanding my business, Tiger’s Whimsical Creations, which was inspired by my late grandmother.
The purpose for this website is for me to have a place where I can share my thoughts, ideas, and opinions with others. I personally believe that life is too precious and should not be taken for granted. Because of this, I am passionate about my community and I stand up for what is right. Personally, I feel that humans should put others first and we should live life as an example of integrity, ethics and morals.
I never thought at this point in my life I would feel so passionate about the events that are occurring throughout my community and the impact it personally has in our life. People in the community need to be aware that there are people who still truly care in this world and there are important implications to one’s actions. In our society we are often reminded of the hardships of life and the nastiness of human nature. The world is getting harder to live in and I can only imagine what life will be like for our children and future generations. I have come to terms with accepting the person I have become, and realize that there are so many other people out there in our community that care too.
For me personally, I will be reporting on those individuals who give back to our communities through selfless acts, charitable contributions and living with others in mind as most news outlets do not always have the opportunity to honor these people who truly make our communities better. It is for these reasons that individuals need to be inspired to step up in their neighborhoods to promote moral and spiritual living.
My daily focus is on positive living. I use inspirational quotes as vitamins for my life. I hope to share what has been helpful to me in self-support both spiritually and emotionally in order for me to live life with a positive outlook.
“Help publicly. Help privately. Help make sense where sense has gone missing. Help science to solve and faith to soothe. Help and you will abolish apathy-the void that is so quickly filled by ignorance and evil.”
-Tom Hanks
