Lady Seahawks Donate Proceeds And Honor Wounded Warrior Project

Land O’ Lakes – Sunlake High School’s Lady Seahawks and Zephyrhills High School Bulldogs’ softball teams host the Wounded Warrior Project Event on Thursday, April 10, 2014. “With the mission to honor and empower” disabled veterans the Wounded Warrior Project provides services and programs that facilitate the hardships of injured veterans. U.S. Army Veteran Luke Murphy said, “more than 17,000 backpacks of comfort items to newly-injured service members has been donated by the Wounded Warrior Project. The Wounded Warrior Project offers several outdoor outings and activities, which enables troops that have been wounded to stay active and still feel that they are a part of their community.

In addition to donating the proceeds of the game and inviting local vendors to do the same, both teams wore camouflage jerseys to express their gratitude towards all military branches. This is the first time the Lady Seahawks was involved in putting this event together to honor all military branches and we are looking forward to doing it again next year,” stated Coach Denise Garcia. Coach Nelson Garcia said, ” The Lady Seahawks had a successful season this year and I am very proud of all the work and dedication they put into it.”  Both coaches expressed, “This game in particular is very emotional for us because many of our seniors will be graduating.” Coach D. Garcia said, “I just want everyone not to forget and remember everything the military does for our nation.  All we want is for them to come home to their families.” Helen Browning of Land O’ Lakes, Fla., attended the event and said, “This event was one of the most memorable events she has ever attended.”
