Due to the increase in divorce and cohabitation in our society, I am conducting a survey on Stepparents: The Risk and Rewards Associated with Stepmothers Raising Stepchildren. Often times, stepmothers experience emotional challenges, take risks, and make many sacrifices for their stepchildren.

The purpose of this survey is to gather information to clarify whether the risks of being a stepmother outweighs the rewards. The survey consists of multiple-choice questions, true or false questions, and a rating scale to validate how stepmothers feel when interacting with their stepchildren, spouses, and biological mothers. Stepmothers not only experience difficulties in establishing a positive relationship with their stepchildren, but it also takes a toll on their relationship with their spouse or significant other, as well as the biological mother.
Furthermore, the biological mother’s negative feelings towards the stepmother can adversely impact the relationship between the children and stepmother. This pressure makes it more difficult for stepchildren to form a positive and nurturing relationship with their stepmother. In some instances, there are many health concerns stepmothers face because it takes an emotional strain on their health. For example, they experience excess stress, anxiety, and fear of not meeting the expectations of the stepchildren, their spouse, and the biological mother.
Although there is a stigma attached to stepmothers as the wicked witch, there are many stepmothers in our society who genuinely care for their stepchildren. Communication on behalf of all is the key component that is necessary in making blended families work.
